From April 10 to 12, 2026, the ASCE Greater ChinaCivil EngineeringStudent Symposium was held at Zhejiang University. A team of five undergraduate students from Southeast University — Yang Yang, Shan Shiyu, Li Yu, Zhang Kexuan (School of Civil Engineering, Class of 2024) and Zhang Xiabin (Xinsheng College, Class of 2025) — participated in the Concrete Canoe Competition. The School of Civil Engineering appointed Vice Dean Yao Yiming as team leader, with Professor Wu Chang and Vice Dean Zhang Wenming as faculty advisors. After intense competition including an oral presentation and defense, the Southeast University team won second place overalland the second prize.

The Concrete Canoe Competition requires participants to optimize hull shape and material composition while ensuring structural safety and buoyancy, improving speed, strength, and anti-capsizing performance, and balancing self-weight, load-bearing capacity, and workability. As a signature event of ASCE Greater China, the competition fosters students' structural design and material innovation skills.
This excellent result reflects the School of Civil Engineering's long-standing tradition of enhancing students' innovation, teamwork, and engineering practice through competitions, as well as its success in interdisciplinary collaboration and talent cultivation.
The ASCE Greater China Student Symposium is a highly influential international academic exchange and practice competition in civil engineering. It features three core competitions: Paper, Concrete Canoe, and Sustainable Solutions. Winning teams may represent Greater China in the ASCE Global Finals.
